A visit to the Wadowice area of Krakow warrants for a taste of what is affectionately known as Papal Cream Cake. Made famous by its association with Pope (now St.) John Paul II, who was born and spent his childhood here, the “cake” is actually a dense block of vanilla cream custard sandwiched between thicker upper and thinner lower layers of pastry and sprinkled generously with powdered sugar. The hint of brandy is obvious as you dig into the cream – although not overwhelming.
Definitely something unique and worth trying!
