It was exciting to see that Percy & Bea had launched a couple of new dips – of course, I had to give them a go.
The Cheesy Shrimp Scampi Dip (LKR 1,500 per jar) sounded enticing. Prepared with a variety of cheeses that included parmesan, mozzarella, cream cheese, as well as sour cream, this dip is thicker than your average scampi – and richer, of course. While it obviously goes well with crackers and the likes, I thought it tasted great on a warm slice of toast too. What I thought was particularly nice was the aftertaste of herbs and spices on the palate after the initial experience of the creamy spread and prawn chunks.

The other was a Red Pesto Dip (LKR 1,350 per jar). There is an obvious heat that comes from the roasted red peppers, while its caramelisation might be a contributor towards the mild sweetness that ensues. The combination of sundried and cherry tomatoes would also undoubtedly have added to the sweetness as well as a barely-there tinge of tartness. The tiny bits of cashew complement the otherwise smooth texture with a slight bite. I enjoyed the red pesto dip on some potato crackers, but I’m thinking of trying this out in a ham and cheese sandwich next – I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be good.

So, two more great dips from Percy & Bea, and I’m certainly looking forward to whatever else is in the pipeline. But if I were to choose, I’d say my all-time favourite is their Brandy-infused Chicken Liver Pâté. SO good!
