When it comes to brunches and buffets, there is barely a shortage in Colombo. Which is a good thing as it brings about some healthy competition. Ironically, it is ‘healthy’, in a sense, for us too as – despite the extra calories inevitably consumed – the host hotels and restaurants are pushed to dish out their best.
Cinnamon Lakeside just upped the ante today by putting out a brunch buffet that spanned over 400 varieties of dishes. Starting from the extensive bread and cheese corner to the breakfast counter, the roasts, seasoned sausages, grill station and the visually teasing appetisers and pretty desserts, and ranging from Mexican to Japanese to Chinese to Indian and of course Sri Lankan cuisines, there was nothing that one could imagine that wasn’t there. Massive was the word of the day; the spread was massive, and you definitely needed a massive appetite to properly do justice to it. Yes, this was what one could label the Mother of All Buffets.
As you would probably notice, I may have slightly overdone the starters, hence cutting down on my mains as I fully intended on conserving space for the desserts that looked oh-so-fabulous. Just look at how great everything looks on the plate – even their presentation was on point. And the best thing was that quality had not been compromised for quantity – every single dish that I tried tasted good, if not great. There was absolutely nothing to complain about and I thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience.
We went with the mocktail package (LKR 3,750) which comes with a thirst quenching passion-lemongrass mocktail. Other options were the beer package and the bubbly package.
If you missed this today, worry not. Apparently Lakeside plans on having this massive affair every first Sunday of the month. Now that’s some massive news right there!
