Let me begin with the disclaimer that I am no wine connoisseur. Neither am I much of a wine drinker. However, I do enjoy the occasional glass (or half) of a mild rosé or champagne. Hence, Island Oasis Winery’s Pink Moscato and Tropical Fruit Wine – both 6% ABV – work very well for me!

The “rosé” is made from watermelon, strawberry and pomegranate, while the “white” is made from pineapple, mango and passionfruit. Both give off fruity notes, naturally, and have a tropical sweetness to them that lingers mildly on the palate.

The latter, I felt, had a tad bit more of a zing to it than the Moscato. And while they were both almost equally good, my favourite was the Tropical Fruit Wine. I also felt that you could feel the strength of the alcohol noticeably more on the second day, following exposure, aeration and oxidation of the liquid. The wine itself remained just as enjoyable, though.
Not only is it great that these wines are made locally using vibrant combinations of our very own tropical produce, but their presentation, too, is aesthetically pleasing – making them a presentable option for both entertaining and gifting. They are also well-priced at LKR 3,700 for the Pink Moscato and LKR 3,500 for the Tropical Fruit Wine. They’re best enjoyed chilled.
