Long Feng at Cinnamon Lakeside is always a great option for a spot of Chinese. And this visit was no exception.
Both of the soups that we ordered were very good. The Chicken Sweet Corn Soup (LKR 1,000) came piping hot and was full of flavour, with plenty of chicken, corn and egg drop. Definitely worked up an appetite for the main meal.

The Hot and Sour Seafood, Chicken and Vegetable Soup (LKR 1,250) was true to its name – a fair bit hot and a tad bit sour. It definitely delivered on peppery heat, the sort that clears your throat up and gets your mouth watering. And there was a plentiful mix of chicken, seafood and vegetable in the soup.

Their attractive condiment tray included a variety of chilli sauce, chilli flakes in oil, green chilli in soy sauce, and salted roasted peanuts.

Long Feng’s Sesame Prawn Toast (LKR 1,000) is probably one of the better versions of prawn toast that I’ve had in a while. The crisp toast slices came with a thick layer of prawn spread and was topped with an even layer of toasted sesame seeds that provided a toasty pop in every mouthful. The apple sauce was an interesting and surprisingly apt accompaniment to the dish.

Hong Kong-style Steamed Garoupa with Soy Sauce (LKR 6,350) was our top pick for the mains, and it turned out to be a really good one. Steamed to perfection, the fish was excellent, and the soy sauce broth that it came in was perfect to team up with the steamed rice that we ordered on the side. In fact, the sauce was great with the ribs (see below) that we had, too.

The Crispy Pork Spare Ribs with Salt and Pepper (LKR 2,900) was rather tasty, with the ribs having been seasoned well before being fried in an equally well-seasoned batter. It was great as part of our main meal, but, I’m sure, would also make for a very satisfying finger-food on any occasion.

Long Feng’s Stir-fried Kang Kung Szechuan Style (LKR 1,600) came in a sizeable portion and tasted good, too. It had been cooked just right – neither stalky, nor mushy, and the sauce in which it came was great with both the kang kung as well as the rice.

We went with Steamed Rice (LKR 800) to bring all the main dishes together.

For a while now, Cinnamon Lakeside has offered a common dessert menu across their restaurants. Among the items on offer, their Date Pudding (LKR 1,000) is one of our frequent picks. Frequent, of course, because it is consistently good. The cake-like pudding is generally accompanied by a delicious, honey-like date sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream which, when all mixed together, make for a delightful combination. The thin, toffee-like, porous disc on which the ice cream is placed definitely adds an element of nice texture to the dessert.

It was the first time that we tried Lakeside’s Tiramisu (LKR 1,400) dessert, and it was pretty good! Beautifully presented, it came with a large swirl of light and fluffy coffee cream in a chocolate ‘cup’, a touch of berry compote on the side and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Perhaps a bit more of the coffee-infused sponge inside (and a thinner chocolate cup) would have made it even better, but it was pretty enjoyable as it was. Definitely ordering this one again.
